Nero d’Avola, Syrah and Alcamo are the most sold wines in Sicilian supermarkets. Nero D’Avola is also one of the most sold wines in Italy, ranked 5th with 8 million and 232 thousand litres of wine sold and a growth of 3.6% compared to the previous year. This is the result of a survey carried out by the IRI-Infoscan Institute for Veronafiere, concerning the market trend for 2009 and that will be presented at Vinitaly 2010 (8-12 April www.vinitaly.com).

The first data already allow us to draw a picture of the 2009 trend, concerning the selling of packaged wines, quality wines, everyday wine, sparkling wine and half bottles. According to the survey average Italians chose to buy quality wines (Doc, Docg and Igt) spending on average 3 Euros for each bottle: there has been an increase by 3.9% in the selling of 0.75 lt. bottles, but also the price range of 5 Euros has increased by 8.5%. On the other hand, everyday wines decreased by 2.1%. Sparkling wines are doing well with an average increase by 3.3% (down champagne but up Italian spumante, by 5.3%). No boom for half bottles, their selling has decreased by 6%.
