The tailor made diet elaborated on our genes has arrived: it is called the “g diet” and it was elaborated in Trieste in the laboratories of the Area Science Park. The company G-Life invented it, inside the Innovation Factory of Area. “What we elaborate is the genetic profile of an individual – explained professor Paolo Gasparini, responsible for the scientific department G-Life and head of genetics at the Burlo Garofolo Hospital of Trieste – because from it you can obtain information on metabolism and the life style of a person.

Once obtained the profile, we represent it through metabolic areas and for each of them we propose intervention from a nutritional and behavioural point of view in order to improve individual well-being”. The company created two kits: “g-profile” and “g-diet” that will be on the market by December. The former is a service proposed through a kit containing the tools necessary for the saliva sample, a test for bitter taste and a short questionnaire.

After following the instructions, everything is sent to the laboratories of G-Life and the Dna obtained from saliva is analyzed. For those who are interested in a real diet programme there is the “g-diet”: in this case the kit, apart from the test for bitter taste and the stick for the saliva sample, also contains a special questionnaire to “map” the actual life style of the person. Once in the laboratory the questionnaire and the genetic profile are processed in order to obtain a personalized nutritional plan, realized with nutritionists and dieticians not only on a genetic basis, but also on taste, food preferences and individual life styles.
